Which instrument will b cheaper to play? (i have to either buy or rent)?
so im cant decide on if i should play the clarinet,flute,or drums and percussion. so im gonna let the prices decide. if im playing the flute i need: a lute, 2 books, and a cleaning cloth with a rod. clarinet: a clarinet, 2 books, 4 reeds, cleaning cloth, and cork grease.drums and percussion: drum sticks 3sets, (1 snare drum, 1 soft yarn mallets or rubber mallets for xylophone, 1 soft timpani mallets) and drum bag,and four books. so for you ppl who no instruments please help. i want to play all three and do understand that percussion is harder but i need to decide on 1!!!!!!!!!! need to pick by tommorow. thank you!!!!!!!!!!
As far as Flute and Clarinet:
If possible, try out a flute and clarinet at your local music store. It will help you to see which instrument you can make a sound on. Also, look up recordings of both instruments. When you decide on an instrument you will be hearing a lot of it while you practice. Don’t worry about your decision being “set in stone” because the fingerings for flute and clarinet are VERY similar. You can always switch from one to the other or learn both.
The clarinet requires reeds and you will have to keep buying and maintaining them, where the flute is complete in itself.
Both instruments have options for expanding yourself musically. If you learn the Clarinet, which is called a Bb Clarinet, you can also learn to play the bass clarinet, alto clarinet, and Eb Clarinet. If you choose to learn the flute, you can play the piccolo, alto flute, and bass flute.
As far as percussion:
It is another animal entirely. It will be expensive at first because you have to buy your mallets, books, and other materials. If you stick with band, you will probably need to upgrade your mallets as you get older. The good thing, is that you can learn so many instruments (marimba, timpani, snare, etc.) and you only have to pay for the mallets and sticks that you use on them. If you get bored easily with one instrument, percussion would be a great idea for you because there is a variety of instruments to learn.
