Should I install a small UV filter on Panasonic LX3?
I posted this in cameras too, but want the artists opinions as well.
I want to keep the camera compact, but possibly protect the lens a little better. The Pany Lx3 does not have any protection other than the lens cap for the wonderful Leica lens. I’ve found some UV filters that are small and attach just above the lens. Here’s an example: http://acmaxx.net/installation_lens.html

Panasonic makes a lens adapter which can take a UV filter, but it is long enough that the zoom can extend within it, so it adds bulk to the camera.
Personally, I wouldn’t.
Here’s the reason: You have a wonderful Leica lens. Why would you want to spoil it by placing some piece of third-party unknown quality glass in front of it?
I’d invest in a filter holder if it’s available from the manufacturer. It’ll give you the option of using more filters such as polarizers, etc, and you will have more choice over what quality of filter you use. Go with Heliopan’s or B+W’s.
